In collaboration with Latvian theatres and independent companies the New Theatre Institute of Latvia (NTIL) introduces the Programme of Latvian performances at the Festival HOMO NOVUS 2007.
The last few seasons in Latvian theatre were marked by the strong appearance of the younger generation of theatre directors. Besides the internationally well-known Alvis Hermanis (Latvian Love and Latvian Stories), we would mention Elina Cerpa (The Tenderness), Dz. Dz. Dzilindzers (Just Wild About Harry), Martins Eihe (Freedom), Andrejs Jarovojs (Woman Bomb), Viesturs Kairiss (Surveyor Times), Gatis Smits (Knives in Hens), Ilze Rudzite (Finer Noble Gasses) and Regnars Vaivars (Draccula.Demons).
Programme includes three premieres (performances by Dzilindzers, Kairiss and Vaivars), few examples of classical theatre by our senior masters – Mikhail Gruzdov (The Beauty Queen of Leenane)and Mara Kimele (A Month in The Country), as well as a diverse landscape of younger generation of theatre directors.
NTIL has produced an intriguing collaboration between Latvian and Estonian artists exploring the notion of Freedom (Martins Eihe, Aigars Apinis and Kaja Kann). And there is also a possibility to see one of the latest productions of Alvis Hermanis and his New Riga Theatre company – Latvian Love.
